· Drink out of a SIGG instead of a regular water bottle visit www.mysigg.com to purchase online
· Get your fashion tips on-line instead of buying magazines and wasting paper
· Help recycle clothing by shopping at the vintage or secondhand stores- most of the time the items are great quality and fairly inexpensive

Funding is First! – Here are some great ideas to get you some cold hard cash!
Participate in www.wintheultimateprom.com- who doesn’t need an extra 25K for Prom?
Go Green for Green- Collect ink cartridges or cell phones, most of the programs are free and you will be contributing to a good cause. Visit http://www.rrewards.com/ for more details!
Clean for Cash- Host a car wash; make sure you have enough time to promote it! Find a great location, ask if you can host it there, and scrub away! Make sure you have enough cleaning supplies, rags, a reliable water source and cross your fingers that you will have a sunny day!
Recycle and Reuse – Start this one as an all year long tradition, place recycle bins around campus and every two weeks empty them, many recycling companies pay up to $.30 a pound for aluminum!
Call on your classmates- Mira Mesa High School in San Diego hosts a spare change drive during spirit week, all you have to do is have your committee members carry around a tin for a week. Have everyone empty their pockets in homeroom every day that week and put your pennies in the BANK. Mira Mesa earned over $3,000 dollars in one week!
Call on local retailers to donate Swag! Desert Vista, Phoenix WUP’s winner, had local retailers donate goodies; businesses like to give charity and its great exposure for their names!
Raffle off Sporting Events Tickets- Who doesn’t want the best seats in the house? So sell the front row tickets to your football games for extra cash for prom!
“Kiss Off “is a fun-raiser where students buy Hershey Kisses for graduating seniors. You can let the students attach a note to the “Kiss” wishing the seniors luck or telling them whatever else you need to say before they go! Host the “Kiss Off” right before prom when everyone is buzzing about graduation.
Walk it Out- Get in shape and raise funds at the same time! Host the event on a weekend so the whole community can get involved. If you want to do a mini-walk-a-thon set it up right on campus! Be sure to get the principals permission and have each person pledge a certain amount of money to walk for prom. The only supplies you really need is an amiable amount of water so no one gets dehydrated and plenty of volunteers/participants!
Movie Night - Set the big screen up in the gym and let the students watch the movie for free so that you do not have to buy the rights to whatever film you decide on, make your money on soda, popcorn, candy, and hot dogs. Choose a movie the whole family will like to increase participation the more people the more money. Also, for added revenue make an announcement before the film that donations are always welcome, since you are hosting the movie night for free!
Split the Difference-Talk to a local pizzeria about hosting a special sale to benefit prom. Promote the Pizza Party by passing out coupons to encourage people to order pizza on your specific date to raise funds for prom, when customers place their orders or dine at the pizzeria with coupons, you net half of the proceeds and the restaurant gets major business! Not only will you raise some serious dough the restaurant will benefit from the surge of business you'll send their way!
Candy Drives- Host this one around Valentines Day so everyone is truly in the mood for crazy amounts of candy!
Post-Prom lock-in! Host it at a nearby venue from midnight to 6 am encourage students to bring a change of clothes and let the fun begin! Some fun places to host your after party are: your school, A movie theatre , A Country Club, A Bowling alley, The local YMCA , A recreation center, The Civic Center, An Amusement park
Leave it up to your student body! Hold a school-wide contest, have students submit ideas and then have students vote for the best idea! You will get some crazy ideas that the kids in your school will be interested in participating in because they picked it!
Platinum record albums. A mutli-million dollar record contract. Multiple country music awards. And a Grammy nomination. This doesn’t sound like you typical 18 year old, now does it? Though little miss Taylor Swift has already completed many milestones in her life, up until a few weeks ago, she still hadn't done one thing: Senior Prom. As part of MTV's Once Upon a Prom, which airs June 12, Swift accompanied one lucky senior to Hillcrest High School’s Senior Prom in Alabama. Swift chose from over 50 applicants, but Whit Wright was the perfect fit for Swift with his “down to earth” attitude and “all-American" charm.
Limo? Forget it…..Swift picked up Wright in her brand new tour bus. Swift and her man rolled into their prom in STYLE. The pair set-up their best friends and brought them along to prom and partied with other seniors on a riverboat before heading to the dance to dance the night away!
Though this little celebutante refers to herself as “Not a big deal…. at all.” I am sure her date would disagree, up until a few weeks prior to the event Wright was under the impression he was attending prom alone, ironically enough he was the chosen to escort TAYLOR SWIFT. Wright told the Tuscaloosa News, “It's just been the best senior year I can possibly imagine."
The couple agreed that their Senior Prom was amazing, Swift said, "I felt so much like I was in high school again”, adding that she'll "totally" see him [Wright] again. “He was the best prom date ever!"
This just goes to show how important prom night really is for teens! Tune into MTV’s Once Upon a Prom on June 12th, for details visit www.MTV.com . To watch Swift and Wright step into the Prom visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlo798Z3A_k
What
should I do if the person I want to go with already has a date? Simple, think
of your next best bet. It doesn't have to be someone you are in love with or
even have a crush on. Think of someone you always have fun with. Someone that
makes you laugh and smile. You WILL remember your prom night and I
guarantee you will want to remember having a great time with a friend versus having
a bad time with someone you had a brief crush on.
That person taken too? Find a friend, guy or girl that doesn't have a
date either or find a group of people to go with. The more the people the more
fun you will have.
Plus, this way will eliminate all that dating stress!
Ok, so Ill admit
it I haven’t bought a prom dress in a while but I was interested to see what
brands were hot and which brands were not. Out of the million different prom
dress designers, I was only really really impressed with a few of the
designers. Some of them looked, well, cheap. My five picks for this years top
dress designers are:
La Femme –
However, these gowns are pretty pricy so my suggestion is to start savin for next year sister! Plus, most of the dresses in the collections above can be worn again!
There are so many questions regarding prom; why is prom so important? Is it the right of passage? Is it a fun excuse for kids to get dolled up and have a good time? Is it a marketing ploy for dress, limo, tux, and companies? Well, sure you can look it as a superficial event but that wouldn’t be much fun now would it?
Prom actually helps teens in more ways than we realize. Other than the fact that it is a right of passage and a really fun milestone in your lives, you will use more skills than you think. For example, you will use cooperation and planning skills. Who wants their parents to plan their prom night? Well, hopefully, you don’t. Prom night involves working together with a group to set your game plan for the night and as we all know the “game plan” can get pretty extensive. You will also have to learn how to prioritize and budget. If you only have $500 dollars for prom you won’t be able to buy the “perfect” dress that is $499, so keep lookin sista. Weigh your options and figure out what’s really important to you. Next life lesson you will have to be responsible. With that said, even if you don’t want to, listen to your parents! Why? Because it will make for a much more pleasant home atmosphere and if you are responsible this year maybe next year they will get to stay out later because your parents will trust your judgment because you have proven to be responsible!
No doubt Desert Vista would have had a fabulous prom regardless, but winning $25,000 in GCU's Win The Ultimate Prom Contest certainly didn't hurt. Desert Vista Junior/Senior Ultimate Prom was held at the beautiful Corona Ranch on April 12th. The students were all smiles, and who wouldn’t be with a prom as fly as theirs? Guests strolled the red carpet through pillows of fog, dodging paparazzi and roving lights, leading them into the actual venue, which was transformed into the ambience of a Cirque du Soleil show. The room was truly elegant with draping fabrics throughout, sparkling twinkle lights covering the ceilings, and over 5 different performers. (diva dancer, fire throwers and a contortionist Katastro the band, DJ Andy Tang). The surprises didn’t stop there, Sugarlips Cakery, made the students a customized cupcake-cake and each couple walked with a Swag bag full of goodies!
When the students at Desert Vista had found out they won the Ultimate Prom, DV Junior, Kristin Roa, wished for "A prom with an acrobatic act and the best theme ever! ,". Looks like Win the Ultimate Prom did more than deliver!
